The encounter is built to engage the audience in an unconscious dialogue on the nature of violence and abuse. The presentation, materials and artwork featured develop a conceptual framework on which the actions of the viewer will complete the full theoretical capabilities of the exhibition. Two series of intimate photos, one created by the curator of the exhibition and one loaned from a contemporary artist, both film and digital will be placed in sealed boxes of a minimalist design, and an axe are present. The photography speaks to the voyeuristic tendencies in modern society, whereas the axe represents traditional and obvious courses of violent behaviour. The box is a catalyst to which the encounter is counterbalanced, it is a barrier between private and public, violent and calm, seen and unseen.
This project consists of 8 photographs that are not supposed to be seen. Encased in a solid wooden box and sealed closed.
Whether or not the encounter is destroyed is irrelevant to the concept.
